ADMACOM Project

The project is part of the "Factories of the Future-Public-Private Partnership" programme for research and innovation in the manufacturing sector (FP7-2013)

Politecnico di Torino (POLITO)

(www.polito.it) was founded about 150 years ago and represents a leading public university, in Italy and Europe, in technical-scientific teaching and research with over 32000 students from more than 100 countries.

In 11 multidisciplinary Departments, 2,500 people carry out R&D activities in all fields of Engineering, Architecture and Design. Politecnico di Torino is part of some of the major European interuniversity networks, such as CESAER, CLUSTER, E.C.I.U, EUA, and CMU. Politecnico di Torino is part of 20 European Networks, including in the field of materials and energy: SEEIT, EERA, N.ERGHY, EUMAT, A4M, ETIP and EPoSS. These contacts will permit to spread and disseminate information and project results to a wider number of institutions. The University aims at networking with the socio-economical context and at opening new partnerships with industries and multinational companies (about 800 research agreements per year).

The "Cittadella Politecnica" is a new campus area where research, teaching and training go hand in hand with local and student services as well as financial and cultural activities. It also houses the Business Research Centre (BRC) and the Innovative Enterprise Incubator of the Politecnico of Torino, I3P.

The Politecnico is becoming increasingly engaged in the participation to European, national and regional research projects. In the 7th Framework Program it is involved in 209 projects corresponding to 57.5 M€. In 2010/2012 it was involved in 148 EU research projects, 163 national research projects, 271 regional research projects and 1821 external services. Overall research income is estimated about 138 M€ in 2010/2012.

Politecnico di Torino is one of the partners involved in the two European Flagships projects: ‘Graphene’ and ‘Human Brain Project”. On 12th June 2013, the G8 Science Ministers group  signed the global scientific research statement and push on Open Scientific Research Data and access to Scientific Research Results by the open access strategies. PORTO is the Open Repository of publications produced by the scientific community of Politecnico di Torino with more than 68600 publications and more than 200 active patents.

The “Glasses, Ceramics and Composites” research group (GLANCE, www.composites.polito.it) is part of the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT). GLANCE has more than 20 years experience of manufacturing advanced glasses.  GLANCE staff includes 1 full professor, 3 associate professors, 4 assistant professors, about 25 PhD students, post-doc researchers, technicians. Expertise ranging from materials physics and chemistry, materials properties, characterization, functionalization, production and testing in working condition is available. Several state-of-the-art facilities allow the preparation and testing of glasses, glass-ceramics, ceramics and their composites, as bulk-, fibres-, porous-, coating- or joining materials. Dissemination is guaranteed by papers published on international peer reviewed journals, active participation to international conferences, intensive cooperation with large and small-medium companies.

The Glasses, Ceramic and Composite group is core member of the European Virtual Institute on Knowledge-based Multifunctional Materials AISBL (KMM-VIN). The number of the GLANCE researchers’ patents is over 20, most of them are related to glass based materials.
